What is the difference between Immediate Letters and Patient Letters?

EMR Datacenter uses Letter Templates in two(2) different ways.  There are Patient Letter and Immediate Letters.  The templates are the same for both.  The difference is the way and to whom they are generated.

Immediate Letters

Immediate Letters are generated to a single patient while in their chart 

• Open the patient's file.
• Click the  Immediate Letters icon on the left icon bar.
• Click the 'New' icon on the top right.
• Choose the letter to generate. 
• Click Print.

Patient Letters

Patient letters use the same template to generate a letter to a group of patients that meet the criteria set in SmartSelect.

• You do not need to have a patient open for Patient Letters
• Click on Tools > Patient Letters
• Click 'Select Patients to open the SmartSelect box and enter the criteria (see SmartSelect).
• The patients that meet the criteria will appear in the list
• Click Select Template to choose the letter template to generate.  
• Click Print to generate and print the letters to the patient in the list.

EMR Datacenter keeps a log in Immediate Letters of all letters generated to the patient using Immediate and Patient Letters.
